Why?

You might be wondering why I'm trying to read the Bible in one year, and why I'm blogging about it.

Well, the answer is simple. I'm terrible at reading my Bible. I really struggle to settle into any kind of rhythm with Bible reading, so I can often go days or weeks without reading. Bible reading is one of the ways I best connect with God, so I decided I needed to come up with a plan to get me reading through the Bible.

Luckily, I didn't need to do it on my own. You see, three years ago, just before I set off on my year abroad, I bought myself the Soul Survivor Bible in One Year. I wanted to read the whole Bible anyway, and I figured since I already had the plan set out in a book, this would be a great way to do it. Only problem was that I'd attempted to use it before and failed.

That's where the blog comes in! Bible reading is normally a personal thing for me. I don't tend to read with other people around, so it's difficult to stay accountable. By writing a blog post every time I read my Bible, it helps keep me accountable. At this stage, I know I won't finish exactly one year after starting. There will be gaps. It is my hope that this blog will help keep those gaps to a minimum.

Additionally, writing down my thoughts on a passage means I can go back to them at a later date. Throughout these 12(+) months, I know I will go through different seasons with God. Sometimes, I'll be on a spiritual high and loving life. Other times, I'll be really low and questioning whether God even really exists. Once I'm done, I can go back through and see how God was speaking to me at different times.

I hope that all makes sense!

tl;dr - I'm terrible at reading the Bible, Bible in one Year seems like a great way of committing to actually getting stuck into it. Committing to blogging about it helps keep me accountable.
