Day 51 (Exodus 27-28 | Mark 5:21-6:6a | Psalm 24)

Day 51
Exodus 27:1-28:43
(27 | 28)

The instructions for the tabernacle's furnishings continue; this time for the altar, its huge courtyard and the lampstand (and the oil needed for it). The instructions continue to include the priestly clothing for Aaron and his sons. As the head priest, Aaron's clothing is much more ornate and elaborate than that of his sons.

Here is an image I found (via Google) of Aaron's priestly garments.
I'm not sure how accurate that is, but there we go. Again, I'm really struggling to connect with this passage. All I'm really able to take from it is the massive amounts of materials the Israelites would have had to have donated in order for the project to be completed.

Mark 5:21-6:6a
(5:21-43 | 6:1-6)

So it seems that the links I've been using to YouVersion for the past couple of days have redirected to Numbers. I'm not quite sure why "mar" would link to Numbers instead of Mark, but there we go. I will probably correct the links eventually.

Anyway! Jesus and his disciples cross the lake again. When they land, a leader from the synagogue asks Jesus to go heal his daughter, who is dying. On the way to see the man's daughter, a woman who had been suffering from horrendous periods for twelve years reaches out to touch Jesus' cloak, believing that just that would heal her. It does, but Jesus notices that something has happened. So he demands of the crowd pressing around him who touched his cloak. The woman comes forward, and Jesus tells her that her faith healed her, and tells her to go in peace. Word then reaches the crowd that the synagogue leader's daughter has died. Undeterred, Jesus carries on to the man's house, telling the people that the man's daughter is not dead, rather she's just sleeping. In the company of just the man, his wife, and three of his disciples (Peter, James and John), Jesus goes into the girl's room, and tells her to get up. She does so, and starts wandering around. Jesus told them not to tell anyone what had happened - presumably, they were to just agree with Jesus' previous assertion that she was just asleep, and the thing they weren't to tell anyone was that Jesus brought her back to life.

Anyway, Jesus heads to his home town. He teaches in the synagogue, and people are amazed. But more people take offence at his presence; they'd known him since he was a baby, and they found it offensive that he was standing in front of them trying to teach them. Jesus was amazed by the lack of faith of the people there; they'd known him since he was a baby and refused to believe he had the authority to teach the way he was teaching.

Psalm 24:1-10
(24)

This psalm is the one that reads like a song the most so far. Well it is for me, at least. The psalm lifts up God as sovereign over all. It also declares who will receive God's blessing, and who will be vindicated in his sight. Finally, it proclaims the LORD Almighty as the King of glory.
