Day 55 (Exodus 35-36 | Mark 7:31-8:13 | Psalm 25:16-22)

Day 55
Exodus 35-36
(35 | 36)

Moses starts by explaining the Sabbath rules; work for six days, rest on the seventh. No work is to be done on the seventh day, not even lighting a fire, upon pain of death.

Moses then reveals God's plans for the tabernacle. People begin to bring offerings of materials and labour. Moses commissions Bezalel, Choliab, and every single other person to whom God had given the abilities to complete the task.

Once the work begins, Moses has to tell people to stop bringing offerings of materials as they already have more than enough material.

Mark 7:31-8:13
(7:31-37 | 8:1-13)

Jesus heals a deaf and mute man allowing him to hear and speak. Jesus tells him to tell anyone about the episode, but of course he does.

Jesus then feeds the four thousand (again, this figure only includes the men present) with seven loaves of bread. The thing I like about this episode is that the disciples just go with it; the first time round, the disciples talk about sending the crowds away to buy food and, when challenged by Jesus to provide for the crowds themselves, consider only how they'll pay for it as it would take eight months' worth of wages to pay for that amount of food. Not so this time; they know what Jesus is capable of, and when he says he wants to provide for the crowds who had followed him, they feel they know what's coming.

Jesus and his disciples head off to Damascus in the boat. When in Damascus, some Pharisees ask Jesus for a sign from heaven - which, considering all he had done up to this point, is a bit like passport control at the airport asking to see your driving license after seeing your passport. Jesus promises that no sign will be given to that generation.

Psalm 25:16-22
(25:16-22)

David here is asking for redemption and deliverance - not just for himself, but also for Israel. David reiterates the fact that he is offering his situation up to God, and he's doing so because he knows that God will deliver him.
